Cornwallis Building
University of Kent at Canterbury
As a result of similar work carried out for the School of Architecture meld were invited by the School of European Culture and Languages to offer advice and ideas for the staged refurbishment of their building on the Canterbury campus. Our proposals included a range of materials and optional types of finish (most notably the appropriation of OMA’s European Union barcode flag design proposed for the ground floor corridor and feature wall option to the classrooms) intended to reflect the diversity of users’ subjects and, indeed, taste. These could be flexibly implemented in stages as budgets and programme allow.
The Estates Department in consultation with the user groups, then produced a detailed scheme, costings, and programme for the initial works to be finished in time for the new academic year.
