This is the first of two housings proposals we have prepared for the redevelopment of a sensitive town centre site in Tunbridge Wells currently occupied by a multi-storey car park.

We sought to maximize the development potential of this complex site by combining different dwelling typologies in three separate blocks. Along Calverley Street, a row of eight two bedroom maisonettes terraces over one bedroom flats are accessed from four in-set entrances that articulate the block giving a scale that is in-keeping with the adjacent semi-detached townhouses and proportions of the corner building, which is out with our site’s boundary.

Adjoining this corner on Garden Street, over an existing electricity sub-station, are three floors of two bedroom flats with two more one bedroom flats behind a shared access stair.

The diversity of colours and materials in this site’s context is reflected in our proposed materials of copper, zinc, red and cream coloured brick incorporating various expressive brickwork details that seek to reduce the scale, further relating to the decorative restraint of the surroundings.
