Great Percy Street
London WC1
This project in the basement of a Grade II listed Victorian terrace house in Islington, north London had a number of challenging requirements: extensive excavation was needed to achieve an acceptable floor to ceiling heights in the former coal cellars now containing shower and utility rooms; and 55db of sound insulation was required to the front room recording studio (a 70db reduction was achieved). Materials used included new oak floors and staircase, glass mosaic tiles, and OSB shuttered concrete to the retaining walls of the garden stair which can be used as a performance space for visiting musicians.
