Inverness Street (study 2)
London
Our second massing study for a new build house on this tight infill site in Camden, again mediates in scale between the smaller terrace and white stuccoed side entrance of the larger townhouse, and along with the transition of the different building lines to the street.
A continuity of brickwork is achieved by linking the garden wall to the first floor brickwork of the adjoining terrace while continuing the line of the white stucco base through to the front entrance at ground floor level. White render also continues onto the soffit and window surrounds, referencing the treatment of the adjoining first floor windows, and can be perceived as a single interlocking element.
The perceived bulk of the upper level is reduced by the angled wall which has a perforated brickwork screen with full height window behind, filtering south light and enhancing privacy.
