Newland Street
Witham

This project on the main street running through the centre of Witham in Essex, converts an early concrete frame 1970’s three storey office building into a residential development of 2 bedroom flats. It recognises the potential environmental benefits and flexibility offered by adapting this type of existing structure: preserving embodied energy while upgrading weathering and insulation to current technical housing standards.

The proposed FibreC cladding (panels of glass-fibre reinforced concrete) is intended to reflect the variety of contextual colours, while a cedar shingle treatment is also being considered.

A planning application was made in June 2012 and we are currently working towards achieving approval from Braintree District Council.
